Josef Lada
(1887 - 1957) A Czech artist and writer, merciless caricaturist and author of well known character Mikeš cat and another speaking animals knowns from many nice fairy tales. Josef Lada has also illustrated books for adults. A Good soldier Švejk, a character from book of Jaroslav Hašek, could not possibly get a better companion than Josef Lada was. It is also impossible to forget his illustrations to poems by Jaroslav Seifert, fiary tales by Jiří Mahen or proposals of costumes and wings for plays and films.
Josef Lada was a poetist of a landscape arround his birthplace Hrusice village. This region is for us known since our childhood, thanks pictures of woody hills, hillsides, the Sázava river, churches in villages and ruins of castles. Maybe this romantic place is still beeing inhabited by nymps, water nixies, water sprites and and angels.
